Suburban Parks Program
As Melbourne grows, it will need to balance growth with new parklands. In this project, we helped ParksVic with a strategy for over 720 hectares of new and upgraded Regional Parks nestled close to greater Melbourne.
In collaboration with Parks Victoria, Pollen has developed strategic plans for the future of five 100+ hectare parks. Future suburbs will need a strong connection to biodiverse, ecological corridors that serve as habitats for flora and fauna, and as places for public enjoyment that are protected and nurtured. This was our chance to have a huge impact on the future of Melbourne, with major upgrades for Werribee and Toolern and brand new major parks for Kororoit Creek and Clyde.
The design and planning for these vital open spaces include areas designated for rewilding, the identification and preservation of critically endangered grasslands, and a variety of visitor-centric activities to enhance the connection to natural and wild places. Proposed revegetation and rewilding process will turn these sites, over many years, from paddocks into biodiverse parks. A future that not only protects species like the Growling Grass Frog at the edge of suburban sprawl, but also educates and enables the community to walk, run, ride, canoe and picnic side by side with these creatures.
This project was significant for Pollen as we had a chance to prepare graphics design for a major audience – shared on Instagram by the State Premier. We believe this project represents a realised gold standard for the planning of future parks.
