Southgateway Reserve

Frankston City Council, Langwarrin, 2018

Pollen were engaged for concept design to construction documentation phases for upgrades to the Southgateway Playspace in Frankston. Nestled within an existing copse of native trees, the upgrade of Southgateway Playspace celebrates and enhances the Australian character of this local bushland, and implies a sense of imaginative play and dwelling amongst users of the site.

The proposed design provides a nature-based play experience for all age groups. This includes opportunities for disabled and able-bodied children to play together in a meaningful way on both traditional play equipment and by interacting with sculptural custom play elements.

New infrastructural paths wrap through the playspace, providing access and connectivity to the playspace. In addition to being a play space, an upgraded BBQ and picnic area are provided within the reserve to create a family-oriented location for meeting and socialising, connecting the reserve beyond the suburban path network.
