Open Space Development and Management Plan, Moreland City Council 2013 view to bridgeGowanbrae is a small suburb of about 3000 people located in Melbourne’s north. It was largely developed during the 1990’s as low-density detached housing and is isolated by the surrounding freeways and creek system. Much of Gowanbrae’s open space occurs on steep slopes with limited recreation facilities or opportunities. Pollen Studio was approached by Moreland City Council to help develop the Gowanbrae Open Space Development and Management Plan which aims to guide Council’s open space decisions over the next ten years.Open Space DevelopmentPollen Studio conducted investigations into Gowanbrae’s open space and maintenance responsibilities to identify key opportunities for the development of its public open space over the next 10 years. This involved on site investigations, site analysis, community consultation sessions, draft opportunities plans, site management and maintenance planning, action planning and global budget estimates.Slope AnalysisThe resulting Gowanbrae Open Space Development and Management Plan sets a path for the focused improvement of its open space network and simultaneously considers management implications and opportunities. We believe this integrated plan delivers a framework of achievable, prioritised and considered projects to improve the connectedness and use of open space throughout the suburb.10 Year Action PlanThroughout the project we worked closely with Moreland’s Open Space Design Development team, Open Space Maintenance staff and local residents to create a plan that lays out realistic outcomes that council can maintain and that the community at large has asked for.GBrae3 710 web Looking over Gowanbrae community towards Moonee Ponds Creek
